In 2006, Michael West and Tom Hughes, along with their wives Patricia and Julia, purchased 77 acres in East Bend (21 miles north of Clemmons) in the Yadkin Valley Appellation of North Carolina, where they planted vineyards and launched Divine Llama Vineyards.
In the spring of 2009, a tasting room opened, nestled among five acres of vineyards and twenty acres of pastures for llama and miniature horses. Varietals planted on the property include Chardonel, Traminette, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
