The NPDES Permit itemizes required actions in six management areas that reduce stormwater pollution and assures clean water is maintained in our nation's water bodies. Although not required by regulation, Clemmons' stormwater program also manages stormwater quantity amounts resulting from new development.
Both existing and proposed development are addressed through application of local ordinance requirements and engineering analysis. Regulations limit the amount of runoff that flows from tracts of land under construction and post-construction.
Public Education & Outreach
The VOC maintains a public education program to provide information and help educate residents on stormwater related issues.
The VOC performs inspections based on complaints or concerns to inspect possible Illicit Discharge into our waterways. Do your part and help by reporting anything that appears to be pollution!
Construction Site Runoff Controls
The VOC has delegated all Sediment and Erosion control inspections and enforcement to the City of Winston. To report erosion, call 336-747-7480.
Public Involvement & Participation
The VOC works with the surrounding community to involve its citizens in volunteer cleanup events and other programs.
Pollution Prevention & Good Housekeeping
The VOC works with local contractors on major and minor capital improvement projects throughout Clemmons to assist with drainage.
Post-Construction Site Runoff Controls
The VOC requires quality and quantity control stormwater devices to be installed in most development and redevelopment sites. This helps with water quality and flood control.
Our Capital Improvement Program evaluates areas that have existing drainage problems and prioritizes structural improvement projects based on objective criteria. Numerous capital projects have been completed in the last several years that provided improved flow of runoff thereby helping to alleviate flooding issues that impact downstream properties.
